Historical Walking Tours

Experience a walking tour of Ireland’s best-preserved Medieval Town

Athenry Heritage Town is situated 10 miles east of Galway and offers an ideal stopover for an afternoon or overnight visit. Experience a walking tour of Ireland’s best-preserved Medieval Town in which domestic or overseas visitors can discover the truly unique historical features of this lively town.

The Athenry Heritage Centre provides the focus or starting point from which to see:

  • The Medieval Parish Church of St. Mary’s.
  • The only restored Norman Castle in Ireland,
  • The superbly preserved Dominican Priory, with the best collection of occupational gravestones in Ireland
  • Ireland’s only “in-situ” original market cross

Athenry Heritage Town is one of many destinations to visit in the east County Galway, a county that is rich in heritage and culture that offers visitors an unspoilt landscape and a warm welcome to all.
