Directions
Located in the centre of Athenry and only a 20 minute drive from Galway city, the spire of St. Mary’s Church is a landmark feature of the town.The main entrance is from the Market Square, with a rear entrance (summer only) opposite Athenry Castle. The heritage centre is set amongst the ruins of the original 13th century St. Mary’s Collegiate Church and access to the centre is through the old church archway. Free Parking is available outside Athenry Castle with Pay & Display spaces available throughout the town.There are two long term car parks, €3.00 per day located next to the North Gate and the other is on Swan Gate Road, next to Kenny Park, which is a GAA pitch.
Road
The medieval town of Athenry is accessible from the M6 motorway. Take Junction 17 exit and follow sign directions R347 to the town centre, which is 5 minutes from the motorway. There is access to the town from the M!7, Limerick to Tuam motorway. Exit at Junction 18 and follow directions to M6 Dublin and then exit at Junction 17. Athenry is 1 hour 57 minutes from Dublin Airport, 1 hour and 16 minutes from Ireland West Airport Knock and 1 hour and 6 minutes from Shannon Airport. Visitors to Athenry can also use the R446 from Oranmore or Loughrea and then the R348, direction Athenry.

Rail
Athenry has excellent rail connections from Dublin, Galway and Limerick. The timetable for trains to Athenry from Dublin or Galway can be found at www.irishrail.ie and the timetable from Limerick from www.irishrail.ie. Book online tickets to get railsaver discounts.
From Athenry train station, visitors can walk to the main road and turn left onto Church Street. Continue along Church Street; pass the Catholic Church on your left. You are now entering the narrow medieval streets of Athenry. At the T-Junction keep left and pass The Fields of Athenry gift shop. Continue straight ahead and you have now entered the Market Square. The entrance to the Athenry Heritage Centre is located on the left hand corner of the square. Journey time from the station is 10 minutes.
Bus
Athenry has a regular bus services from Galway City.
Buslink provides services from Eyre Square in Galway City to the Arch Car Park which is a five minute walk to the centre.
